• Chemical Peels-Contraindications

  • Patients younger than 18 years of age

  • Known allergy to any ingredient in the formulation 

  • Inflamed skin with open wounds

  • Use of isotretinoin within the past 6 months

  • Active liver inflammatory condition

  • Chemotherapy or radiation within the past 6 months

  • Active cold sores or HSV

  • Pregnancy and breastfeeding

  • History of keloid scarring

Chemical Peels- Pre-Care Instructions

To ensure optimal results and minimize irritation:

• Avoid direct sun exposure and tanning beds for at least 5–7 days prior to your treatment. Always wear SPF 30+.

• Discontinue use of retinoids/retinol, tretinoin, benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid, glycolic acid, and other exfoliating products for 5–7 days before your peel.

• Avoid waxing, threading, laser treatments, or hair removal in the treatment area for 5–7 days prior.

• Do not schedule if you have open wounds, active infections, cold sores, or irritated skin in the treatment area.

• Notify your provider if you are currently taking Isotretinoin (Accutane) or have used it within the past 6–12 months.

• Avoid injectable treatments (toxins or fillers) for at least 1–2 weeks prior, unless approved by your provider.

• Stay well hydrated and keep your skin moisturized in the days leading up to your appointment.

Chemical Peels- Post-Treatment Instructions

Proper aftercare is essential for healing and best results:

First 24–48 Hours:

• Do not wash your face for at least 12-24 hours (or as instructed).

• Avoid touching, picking, or peeling the skin.

• Expect redness, tightness, and mild sensitivity.

Peeling Phase (Days 2–7):

• Peeling or flaking is normal but may not occur with lighter peels—do not pick or pull the skin, as this may cause scarring or hyperpigmentation.

• Keep skin well moisturized with a gentle, hydrating product.

• Use a gentle cleanser and lukewarm water only.

General Aftercare:

• Avoid sun exposure and wear broad-spectrum SPF 30+ daily. This is critical to prevent pigmentation.

• Avoid heat exposure (saunas, hot tubs, intense workouts) for 48–72 hours.

• Do not use exfoliating products, retinoids, or active ingredients for at least 5–7 days post-treatment or until fully healed.

• Avoid makeup for 24 hours (or longer if sensitivity persists).

• Avoid waxing, laser treatments, or other facial procedures for 1–2 weeks.
